Title: Towards Practical Networked Systems for Data Centers
Abstract:
Data centres are the critical infrastructures for big data and cloud computing. In our SING lab at HKUST, we have been devoted to data center networking research for years. In this talk, I will first introduce a lab-scale 100-server data center cluster we have implemented and some representative networked systems projects we conducted based on it. Then, I will elaborate more on one of the projects about network scheduling, through which I will show our motivation and methodology in building simple, yet practical and effective networked systems.
Short Bio:
Kai Chen is an Assistant Professor at CSE department of HKUST, where he leads the system networking (SING) lab. He received his PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern University in 2012. His main research interests include networked systems design and implementation, data center networks, networking support for cloud and big data applications.
